Straight answers about the Quiet Weight Index, what it is, how the score works, and how it differs from therapy or generic coaching.
Questions about the FOCUS method itself (what it stands for, who it is for, how it works, what it costs) are answered in the FOCUS Method FAQ.
Is this therapy?
No. QWI is a structured assessment and clarity process. It does not replace therapy, medical support or crisis care.
What does “Quiet Weight” mean?
Quiet Weight is the internal load created by unresolved decisions, emotional residue, responsibility, repeating patterns, relationship dynamics and pressure carried quietly while still functioning externally.
How does Quiet Weight relate to FOCUS?
Quiet Weight is the foundation of the FOCUS method. FOCUS works above the waterline, with what is conscious: results, the one outcome that matters, what to cut, what to leverage and the rhythm that keeps you on course. Quiet Weight sits below it. When you know what needs doing and still keep getting distracted, not acting or chasing goals that are more extrinsic than intrinsic, that is quiet weight at work, and the next step is to identify, qualify and resolve the limiting beliefs and negative emotions underneath.
Where does the Quiet Weight Index come from?
It was developed by Ilja T. Gull. The first beta in 2012 was called the Mindset Index; from 2013 it was the Mental Weight Index. In 2025 it was renamed Quiet Weight, because “quiet” pokes the ego less than “mental”: most people do not feel mentally burdened, they just feel that something is heavier than it should be.
What does the Quiet Weight Index score mean?
Your Quiet Weight Index score (1-10) is the average of how heavy your nine life areas feel right now: 1 is light, 10 is heavy, like a BMI for life. A high score is not a failure: it shows where your attention is most needed. The pattern across the nine areas matters more than any single number.
What are the nine life areas?
The assessment covers: Purpose & Personal Growth, Body & Fitness, Health & Energy, Career & Fulfilment, Finances, Environment & Living Situation, Leisure & Recreation, Relationships, and Mental Balance. Together they form a complete picture of a balanced life.
How is the AI summary generated?
After you submit your ratings, a personal summary is created by an AI (Claude by Anthropic). It reflects on your specific scores and highlights the areas that shape your current life balance: always personalised to your results, never generic.
Is Quiet Weight Index a medical or clinical tool?
No. Quiet Weight Index is a self-reflection tool, not a clinical assessment. It does not diagnose any condition. If you have concerns about your mental or physical health, please consult a qualified professional.
Is my data private?
Your ratings and email address are stored securely on our server and are never sold or used for advertising. The AI summary is generated via an encrypted connection by our AI provider, which acts only on our behalf. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How often should I take the assessment?
Most people find it useful to reassess every one to three months. Life balance shifts over time: regular check-ins help you track what is improving and where to focus next.
Why do I need to enter my email?
Your email lets us send your results directly to your inbox so you can revisit them anytime. We respect your inbox: no spam, just your personal report.
Does a score of 1 out of 10 mean my life is perfect?
Not exactly. A 1/10 simply means nothing feels heavy in any area right now. The goal of the Quiet Weight Index is not perfection: it is awareness. Even small changes in your heaviest areas can shift how your whole life feels.
