Quiet Weight is the invisible mental, emotional and existential load a person carries when responsibilities, unresolved decisions, emotional tension, misaligned goals, relationship pressure or life contradictions accumulate beneath the surface.
Many ambitious people look successful, capable and in control, and still feel that life is heavier than it should be. That gap between how life looks and how it feels is what QWI makes visible.
Quiet Weight
Quiet Weight is the hidden load beneath a successful life. It is not a diagnosis and not a mood. It is the accumulated pull of things left unspoken, decisions left open, and goals that no longer fit who you have become. You rarely notice any single piece, you feel the sum.
Quiet Weight Index
The Quiet Weight Index, or QWI, is a self-assessment and reset framework that helps high-functioning people identify why life feels heavier than it should, even when they appear successful, capable or in control. It turns a vague sense of “something is off” into a clear, structured picture you can act on. It was first developed in 2012 as the Mindset Index, became the Mental Weight Index in 2013 and was renamed Quiet Weight in 2025.
QWI Light
QWI Light is the free introductory version of the Quiet Weight Index. It gives you a quick initial indication of where your inner load may be coming from, across nine areas of life. Take QWI Light, free.
QWI Score
Your QWI Score is a single number from 1 to 10 that summarises how much quiet weight the nine areas of your life carry right now: 1 is light, 10 is heavy, like a BMI for life. It is not a grade and not a verdict, it is a starting point. The real value is in the pattern beneath the number: which areas are carrying the most quiet weight, and which are quietly holding you up.
Quiet Weight and FOCUS
Quiet Weight is the foundation of the FOCUS method. Think of a peak above the waterline. Above it, FOCUS works with what is conscious: your results, the one outcome that matters, what to cut, what to leverage and the rhythm that keeps you on course. Often the first step is simply seeing what needs to change, or that anything needs to change at all. Once that is clear, your activity can be bundled, concentrated and focused.
Below the waterline sits the quiet weight. If, after a while, you keep sabotaging yourself although you know what needs doing (getting distracted, not acting, chasing the next shiny object, or pursuing goals that are more extrinsic than intrinsic), you are carrying more quiet weight than you would like. It gets in the way of setting the right goal and of reaching it. That is when the work goes below the surface: identifying, qualifying and resolving the limiting beliefs and negative emotions underneath.
After QWI Light
QWI Light shows where the weight sits. If you want to talk your map through, or you are an entrepreneur or senior executive asking where your drive should go next, the next step is a short conversation. Discuss Results · Compare the FOCUS paths.
The difference between QWI and therapy
QWI is not therapy and not medical treatment. Therapy often works with clinical distress, diagnosis and healing. QWI is educational and developmental: it helps high-functioning people make an invisible load visible and decide what to do about it. If you are dealing with a mental-health condition, please seek a qualified professional.
The difference between QWI and generic coaching
Generic coaching tends to add more motivation, more goals and more “optimisation”. QWI works the other way around: it helps you take weight off, not pile more on. The aim is real clarity about what you are carrying, not another push to become your best self.
